Synopsis:
The Beksan Gambir Anom is a male dance and
depicts a fragment of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. This epic consists of many
stories about the 5 Pandåwå-brothers and their 100 cousins the Kuråwå. Arjunå,
is one of the 5 Pandåwå-brothers and he has a son, Bambang Irawan, from his wife
Dewi Ulupi. In the story Irawan Rabi, about the marriage of Bambang Irawan, he
becomes the ruler of the kingdom of Rencang Kencånå and is then called Prabu
Gambir Anom.
Gambir Anom adores the princess Dewi Titisari and wants to
convince her of his love.
The dance shows the way he prepares himself before
meeting his beloved princess. He dresses himself with most attractive
accessory.
But he is not only beautifying his external; symbolically he also
adds all good proposal to his internal.
